Economy
Mali is one of the poorest countries in the world. Many people live in poverty. Most Malians live simple lives, living on what they grow. Most people farm just enough to feed their own family, which is called subsistence farming. They cannot afford to grow anything else. A few more fortunate people grow enough food to sell. They grow rice, cotton, peanuts and shea nuts.

Government
Mali is officially called the Republic of Mali, because the are a republic. Obviously. They elect a President every five years. The President chooses a Prime Minister and the Prime Minister chooses a cabinet of 27 ministers. The legistative branch of govenment is made up of 160 people elected for a five-year term in the National Assembly.
Crime
Violent crime is very rare in Mali, but pickpocketing and theft are common. Following the Muslim faith, most people believe in non-violence and peace.
